How to make term recognition recognise terms with non-breaking hyphens

Dear all,

When I add a term containing a hyphen to my termbase (Studio 2022 SR2), this term will not be recognised if in other instances this very term is written with a non breaking hyphen tag instead of a regular hyphen. Lowering the minimum match value to 30% in the search settings doesn't help. I can't edit the source text (DOCX), since the project resides on client's server. If I try to add the term containg the "NonBreakingHyphen" tag to the termbase, the tag will simply be deleted, and term will not be recognised either.

What can I do?

Best regards

Erik

Question improvement suggestion: Provide specific examples of the terms you are trying to recognize and clarify if there are any error messages or behaviors observed when attempting to add terms with non-breaking hyphens.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello Erik,

To address the issue of Trados Studio not recognizing terms with non-breaking hyphens, you can try the following steps:

**Step 1:** Ensure that your termbase is set up correctly. Since you mentioned that the term with the non-breaking hyphen is not being recognized, check if the termbase allows for special characters. If possible, try to add the term with a regular hyphen and see if it gets recognized.

**Step 2:** If you cannot edit the source text, consider creating a new termbase specifically for terms with non-breaking hyphens. This way, you can add the terms as needed without interference from existing entries.

**Step 3:** Explore the option of using the Language Cloud terminology instead of MultiTerm. The Language Cloud has a "Linguistic Search" option that may help in retrieving terms based on their root or stem, which could be beneficial in your case.

**Step 4:** If you have access to Trados Copilot AI Assistant, consider using it to assist with term recognition. It can help ensure that the correct forms are recognized, even if they are not explicitly in your termbase.

**Step 5:** Lastly, ensure that you have the latest updates for Trados Studio and MultiTerm, as updates may include fixes for term recognition issues.

I hope these steps help you resolve the issue with term recognition. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, feel free to ask!
