I’m working with Trados Studio 2024 SR1 - 18.1.2.6370 on the revision of a very large file with over 27 k words, with track changes turned on as a requirement. The program crashes very often: sometimes 6-8 times an hour. I try to save every two or three segment confirmations so I do not lose too much work.

The biggest issue is that it takes up to a minute for the crash and the restart to boot. Then another 30 seconds to confirm so that it returns to my last confirmed segment that was saved.

Has RWS tried to do something about any similar issues?

It seems that this version is presenting with similar problems. I had a similar experience last month as well.

It would be greatly appreciated if the code writers could work on addressing this type of problem, since the previous versions of Trados Studio, with which I have worked for over 10 years did not present with such issues even when reviewing large files.

Question improvement suggestion: Provide specific error messages or codes if available, and mention any recent changes to your system or software that might have coincided with the crashes.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It sounds like you're experiencing significant challenges with Trados Studio 2024 SR1 while working on a large file with track changes enabled. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the crashing issue:

    **Step 1:** **Check for Updates**

Ensure that both your Windows operating system and Trados Studio are fully updated. You can check for Windows updates by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

    **Step 2:** **Repair Your Installation**

Repair your Trados Studio installation. You can find the guide for this in the application or on the RWS support site.

    **Step 3:** **Verify .NET Framework**

Make sure you have .NET Framework 4.8 or later installed, as this is required for Trados Studio 2024. You can check this in the Windows Features settings.

**Step 4:** **Check for Corrupted Resources**

If the crashes occur at specific segments, it may indicate a corrupted Translation Memory (TM) or termbase. Disable TMs and termbases one by one to identify if a specific one is causing the issue.

    **Step 5:** **Store Resources Locally**

If your translation resources are stored on a shared drive or cloud service, try moving them to your local machine to see if that resolves the crashing.

    **Step 6:** **Reset Trados Studio**

If the issue persists, consider resetting Trados Studio to its default settings. This can help resolve any configuration issues that may be causing instability.

    **Step 7:** **Disable Verification**

As a temporary workaround, you can disable the verification when confirming a segment by going to File > Options > Editor > Automation and unchecking 'Enable verification of segment'.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may want to consider rolling back to a previous version of Trados Studio that you found more stable.

  • I went into the Windows system and made sure that my machine had NET Framework 4.8 or later installed and enabled, as this is required for Trados Studio 2024. This appears to have improved performance and resolved the issues I was experiencing.

I suggest anyone who has this issue try to do the same thing. Just ask Google how to do it and you will receive detailed instructions. Good luck.
