XML V 1.X – Editing files with Trados 2024 SR1

My client sends Cosima exports as xml-V1.x files for translation. I used a customised file type to edit them with Trados 2022 SR2. Now I have updated to Trados 2024 SR1 – and the source files are no longer displayed correctly. Migrating the file type was unsuccessful because the format of the source file (xml v 1 x) does not change and the files do not contain any namespace information. What options do I have?

Question improvement suggestion: Provide specific details about the error messages or issues encountered when trying to edit the XML V 1.X files in Trados 2024 SR1.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It seems you're facing challenges with editing XML V 1.X files after upgrading to Trados 2024 SR1. Here are some steps you can take to address the issue:

**Step 1:** **Check File Type Settings**

Ensure that the XML file type settings in Trados 2024 are correctly configured. Go to `File > Options > File Types` and verify that the XML 2 file type is set up properly. You may need to adjust the settings to ensure compatibility with your XML V 1.X files.

**Step 2:** **Create a Custom XML File Type**

If the default settings are not working, consider creating a custom XML file type based on your XML V 1.X files. You can do this by:

    - Going to `File > Options > File Types > New`.

    - Selecting XML 2 and giving it a unique name.

    - Importing the parser rules from your existing XML V 1.X file type.

    **Step 3:** **Validate XML Files**

Use an XML validator tool to ensure that the XML V 1.X files are well-formed. This can help identify any structural issues that may be causing problems in Trados 2024.

**Step 4:** **Fallback to Legacy XML File Type**

If the new XML 2 file type continues to cause issues, you can temporarily deactivate or move down the XML 2 file type in your project settings. This will allow you to fall back on the legacy XML file type, which may handle your files better.

    **Step 5:** **Recreate the Project**

If all else fails, try recreating the project in Trados Studio using the XML V 2 file type. This can sometimes resolve issues related to file compatibility and processing.

If you continue to experience difficulties, please provide more specific details about the errors or issues you are encountering, as this will help in diagnosing the problem more effectively.
