Cannot open an indd file using Studio 2019

Hello, a client sent me an Indesign file in indd format. I get the following message when I try to open it in Studio 2019:

Pre-scanning error: the selected idml file was created by an unsupported version of Adobe Indesign and will not be processed. Has anybody come across this problem and how was it solved?

Thanks in advance

Martha

Question improvement suggestion: Provide the exact version of Adobe InDesign used to create the INDD file, as this can help in identifying compatibility issues.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello Martha,

It seems you're encountering a common issue when trying to open an INDD file in Trados Studio 2019. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this:

**Step 1:** Check the version of Adobe InDesign that was used to create the INDD file. If it's a newer version than what Trados Studio 2019 supports, you will need to convert it to an IDML file.

**Step 2:** If you have access to Adobe InDesign, open the INDD file and use the "Save As" option to save it as an IDML file. Choose "InDesign CS4 or Later (IDML)" as the format.

**Step 3:** In Trados Studio, go to `File > Options > File Types`, and select `Adobe InDesign CS4-CC IDML`. Ensure that the option "Process unsupported file versions" is enabled.

**Step 4:** Try to open the newly created IDML file in Trados Studio. If you still encounter issues, consider re-checking the settings or updating Trados Studio to the latest version, as updates often improve compatibility with newer file formats.

**Step 5:** If the problem persists, you might want to explore the possibility of unchecking and then rechecking the "Process unsupported file versions" option to refresh the settings.

By following these steps, you should be able to successfully open and work with the file. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, feel free to ask!
