Tm export it into a Tb

Hi,
I have a question about an issue I’m running into. I have a Translation Memory (TM) created from a book translation, and I’d like to export it into a Termbase (TB) glossary in Trados 2024. Is there any plug-in or tool that can extract words/phrases and their equivalent translations from the TM and create a TB for me? I’m not sure how to do this, so I’d really appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Thank you!

  • Ahmad,

what is your purpose in the first place? Building a complex searchable database or reusing extracted words and phrases in future translations? For the latter, Autosuggest tool (integrated in Trados) is, in my opinion, the best, the easiest and the quickest solution (requires a minimum of 10 000 segments for generation). In addition, it is automatic and really efficient (provides translation suggestions while you are typing).

Terminology databases, on the other hand, seek to collect complex terminology, properly filtered and checked, with attributes and fields and multimedia files, if needed. But it is definitely not designed for phrases (even now that fuzzy matches have been added, partial matches are not always detected by Trados automatically and must be searched manually). Autosuggest dictionaries are easy to create, there is a lot of info here on how to. But if you need help, let us know.

I would also recommend you the IATE real-time terminology plugin https://appstore.rws.com/plugin/30 (it is free and offers many categories (Industry, Health, Environment. etc.), it is updated on a daily basis).

    Best regards!
