How to "overrule" perfect match segments?

Working with Tradios 2022 and 2024, I tried to update a translation from a biligual file for review I recieved from the client.

I initially had the "Problem when merging content of segment 1" error. I solved this by creating a new review file, in which I pasted the reviewed content

But the update from bilingual review still did not work in the original project. So I created a new project, and I pre-transated everything from the TM I created in the original project.

When I then ran the "update from bilingual review", I did not receive the error anymore, but no segment was actually updated.

I suspect that this is due to the fact that all segments are "perfect matches"  in the new project. That makes sense because it all comes out of the TM.

Is there any way to remove the perfect match label, so these segments can be updated from the bilingual file? Or am I heading in the wrong direction?

I've already tried to use the "change segment status" command, but the "PM" label persists.

Question improvement suggestion: Provide specific details about the steps you took to create the new project and the exact settings used during the pre-translation and update processes. This will help in diagnosing the issue more effectively.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello!

To address the issue of "overruling" perfect match segments in Trados Studio, follow these steps:

**Step 1:** Verify the Segment Status

Ensure that the segments you want to update are not locked as perfect matches. You can do this by checking the segment status in the editor. If they are marked as "PM," they will not be updated from the bilingual review.

    **Step 2:** Change Segment Status

If the segments are marked as perfect matches, try changing their status. You mentioned that you tried using the "Change Segment Status" command, but ensure you are selecting the correct status (e.g., "In Translation" or "Translation Approved") to allow updates.

**Step 3:** Use the Integrated Segment Actions Plug-in

If changing the status does not work, consider using the Integrated Segment Actions Plug-in. This tool allows you to change the origin or status of multiple segments at once. You can download it from the RWS AppStore and follow the instructions to change the segments' status to allow updates.

**Step 4:** Pre-Translate with Different Settings

When you pre-translate, ensure that you select the option to "Keep existing translation" instead of "Overwrite existing translation if better match found." This setting can prevent the perfect match from blocking updates.

**Step 5:** Update from Bilingual Review

After adjusting the segment statuses and settings, try running the "Update from Bilingual Review" task again. This should allow the segments to be updated with the new content from your bilingual file.

**Step 6:** Manual Adjustments if Necessary

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to manually adjust the segments in the bilingual review file. Copy the content from the reviewed document and paste it into the new review document, ensuring that the Track Changes feature is disabled.

By following these steps, you should be able to update the segments from your bilingual review file effectively. If you continue to experience issues, please provide more details about the specific settings and steps you took, and I would be happy to assist further!
