"Object reference not set for an instance" after upgrading to version 18.1.3.6657

Hello team,

I've recently upgraded my Trados Studio 2024 to version 18.1.3.6657. When working for the first time on a project (Groupshare) with this version, the following message appears when clicking on a segment.

Error message in Trados Studio 2024 displaying 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object' with details including Exception type, HelpLink, Source, HResult, and Stacktrace.

After closing the error message and clicking on another segment, the same message reappears, which makes it impossible to work on the project.

I tried opening the project first with Trados Studio 2022 SR2 (version 17.2.11.19134) and then with Trados Studio 2024 (version 18.1.3.6657), after which the message disappeared. However, after a few seconds inside the project, Trados crashes.

I've tried reinstalling the program, but the problem persists.

This doesn't always happen, as there are times when I can open a project without the message appearing.

Is there a solution?

Thank you.

Question improvement suggestion: Provide the exact error message and any relevant logs or screenshots to help diagnose the issue more effectively.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It seems you're encountering the "Object reference not set to an instance" error after upgrading to Trados Studio 2024 version 18.1.3.6657. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

    **Step 1:** **Check for Updates**

Ensure that you have the latest updates installed for Trados Studio 2024. You can do this by going to Help > Check for Updates within the application.

**Step 2:** **Reset Trados Studio Settings**

    1. Close Trados Studio.

    2. Navigate to the following folder:

      - For Windows 7/8/10: `C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio18`

    3. Rename the `Studio18` folder to `Studio18_old`.

    4. Restart Trados Studio.

    **Step 3:** **Repair Installation**

    1. Close all RWS applications.

    2. Open Control Panel and go to Programs > Programs and Features.

    3. Select Trados Studio and choose Uninstall/Change > Repair.

    4. Restart Trados Studio.

**Step 4:** **Check Translation Memories and Termbases**

Remove all Translation Memories and Termbases from your Project Settings to see if the error persists. If the error goes away, you can add them back one by one to identify if a specific resource is causing the issue.

    **Step 5:** **Use Non-Breaking Hyphens**

If you are working with date ranges, ensure you are using non-breaking hyphens instead of regular hyphens, as this has been known to cause similar errors.

    **Step 6:** **Uninstall Plugins**

If you have any plugins installed, particularly the Segment Information Viewer, try uninstalling them to see if that resolves the issue.

If the problem continues after trying these steps, consider reverting to a previous version of Trados Studio until a fix is implemented.
