Can I receive a file in Across, work on it in Trados, then convert it back to Across without losing any data?

I'm just beginning in Trados, so I don't know much yet.  ;)

I've been asked to work on a file in Across, which I don't have.

Does an Across file convert well into Trados, and vice versa?

    Hi Barbara,

As Jerzy said, it's tricky working with Across because they don't make it easy.  I believe this is how they market themselves, as a closed solution.  So the solution, as mentioned, is to get the translation exported as a TMX which is possible in Across.

Then you can use this TMX filetype from the SDL OpenExchange to translate the TMX and then give it back to Across to update the translation.  It currently says for Studio 2014, but this was updated this week so will say Studio 2015 as well very soon.

That's a tough job for your beginnings with Studio!

    Regards

    Paul

  • This will ONLY be possible, if the Across project you get does allow this. In all the years I used Across I have NEVER had a project, where export and import of a TMX translatable file would be possible. This might now change with the new version 6.3, as Across opens at least some gates, so certainly a TMX translation memory shall be possible, but until I have seen it and experienced myself I doubt very much, that such an export will be possible.
