Failed to verify document: Token RawData in state TopLevel would result in an invalid XML document.

Hi! I am fairly new to using Trados. I use Trados Studio 2024. My client uses exclusively XML (XML DITA to be precise) and I receive the error below when i try to verify and export the file.

Failed to verify document: Token RawData in state TopLevel would result in an invalid XML document.

My vendor suggested the issue might be that the tags in the source text does not match with the tags in the target text. However, I cannot use the auto insert the tags feature, and manually inserting the tags doesn't work, I still get the same error message.

The tags are for hyperlinks, track change and comments. There are lots of them and all of them are in between the sentences. How do I handle them? Am I missing a step? Is the issue something else entirely?

Question improvement suggestion: Provide specific examples of the tags that are causing issues and clarify if you have checked the XML structure for mismatched tags.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

Hello! It sounds like you're encountering a common issue with XML files in Trados Studio, especially when dealing with DITA XML. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the error you're facing:

**Step 1:** **Check the XML Structure**

Ensure that the tags in your source and target texts match perfectly. Mismatched tags can lead to the error you're seeing. Open the XML file in a text editor and verify that all opening tags have corresponding closing tags.

**Step 2:** **Use the Correct File Type Settings**

Make sure you are using the correct XML file type settings in Trados Studio. Go to Project Settings > File Types and ensure that the XML: DITA filter is set up correctly. You might want to check the validation settings and consider unchecking "Perform schema validation when verifying translation" to see if that alleviates the issue.

**Step 3:** **Review Tags in the Editor**

In Trados Studio, use the Tag Display Mode to show all tags. This can help you identify any missing or incorrectly placed tags. Go to Format > Tag Display Mode and select "Full Tag Text" to see the complete tags.

**Step 4:** **Check for Hyperlink Tags**

Since you mentioned hyperlinks, ensure that the hyperlink tags are correctly formatted. If you are unable to use the auto-insert feature, you may need to manually check each hyperlink tag to ensure they are correctly placed.

    **Step 5:** **Recreate the Translation**

If you have made changes to the XML structure or tags, you may need to recreate the translation. This can be done by creating a new project or re-importing the XML file after making the necessary corrections.

    **Step 6:** **Consult the Documentation**

If the issue persists, consider consulting the Trados Studio documentation or user guides for specific guidance on handling XML DITA files.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issues with your XML file. If you continue to experience difficulties, please provide more details about the specific tags causing the problem, and I'll be happy to assist further!
