Studio 2015 does not recognize Excel 2016 documents

Question

I upgraded to Studio 2015 to be able to work with Microsoft Office 2016 documents, more specifically Excel documents. But when I try to add an Excel document to a project or when I try to work on a single document, I receive the following error message: 
 
 In the File Types section of Studio 2015, the Microsoft Excel latest version seems to be 2013, even though the filenames and the description mention 2016. 
 
 I am working on a Windows 10 computer, with Studio 2015 version 12.0.4996.3 and Microsoft Office 2016 version 16.0.6001.1043 
 What can I do to have Studio 2015 recognize Excel 2016 documents and and let me translate them?

Hi Jean-Marie, 
 
I can open Office 2016 Excel files without a problem. So one possible reason is that you migrated your old Project templates from an older version of Studio and so the new ones are not being used. If it's not this then maybe you can share the file for testing?

Hi Jean'Marie,

ok, I have exactly the same problem. Because I now only have Office 2016 installed I no longer have the pre-requisites for Studio to handle XLS. It was ok with previous versions so I guess that since Microsoft stopped supporting the old XLS software (despite still handling the files in 2016) they have also removed whatever they used to include that Studio could make use of.

I have reported this in case it's not a known issue already, but the workaround would seem to be save as DOCX and downsave afterwards if necessary.
