Need to re-use Studio project that I can't locate for Update translation job - how to locate it? or else, workaround needed

Need to re-use legacy Studio project that I can't locate for Update translation job (where updates to the source documents need to be translated and put where they belong) - how to locate it? or else, workaround needed.

I once update translated these kinds of files before so I need to locate the legacy project.

I have gone through my entire hard drive.

What to do? I have taken the job. Is there a workaround to the issue?

Best,

Sebastian Witte

  • I understand that this explanation of yours basically concludes the case. However, I would still like to know why I did not manage to find an undeleted project. I did not run an asterisk-type search on the D: drive, using file extensions like sdlproj or sdlxliff, but rather looked through all the D: drive project folders for that customer individually - to no avail. This is beyond me, even though we handed in the work way before the deadline and with the usual non-existing feedback from the customer, meaning no issues were detected in the deliverables.

  • Hi again,

My explanation covers how files are saved and that it depends on the owner of the computer and the changes they do in time whether those files are backed up or not.

I cannot guess what happened since you last used that legacy project and what other modifications happened on your computer that may influence Trados and the files.

I can only explain the process, advise on where these files are generally saved and how to look for them.

Trados projects and files are typically saved by default in your local Documents folder under C:\Users\[YourUsername]\Documents\Studio 202X\Projects.
AutoSaved files are stored in a hidden local AppData folder (%appdata%).

Do try to search as I already suggested, using the name of the project or the file extension -  since you already know the extensions. Perhaps this helps you find it.

Also, my advice is to think back when you received it and sent it back, if you used your email you may be able to find it in your Inbox or in Sent items if you sent it back that way.

But again, there is no way for me to know what happened on your computer. There are more variables here, and I already mentioned the most common ones, alterations to the computer or to Windows which may affect Trados and the files.

    Best regards,
