Proofreading in Trados Studio

I have a specific question which I have not been able to answer by searching on the community page, although as a very new mwmber I do not know my way around very well yet. I wonder if I could ask it here. 
 
 I have been asked to proofread a translation of a document from Portuguese to English done by another translator, probably not in Trados Studio. I have been sent the source and target texts as Word docs. 
 
 I want to know if there is some way I can load these two documents side by side directly into the Review mode of the Trados Studio Editor, in order to carry out my proofreading job? 
 
 So far, I only managed to open them in the Align mode, correct and complete their alignment (which wasted a lot of time as many segments were mismatched), extract a new TM. Then I created a new project for the same source text, applying the TM just created, as well as a Termbase specific to the organisation commissioning the work. 
 
 This has produced, more or less the ST and TT side by side in the Editor window which I am now reviewing/proofreading. But this seems a very long way round, with a lot of time lost realigning segments and filling in blank ones. Surely, there must be an easier, more efficient way to do this.
