Variable not recognised as a placeable

I have more than one TM in my project. One of the TMs includes a variable list.

When the TM with a variable list is the first TM in the project settings, then the variables are recognised as placeables (they are shown with a blue underline).

When the TM with a variable list is not the first TM, then the variables are not recognised as placeables.

Can anyone reproduce this problem? Or is it unique to me?

Bruce

  • Hi Bruce,

This is just how it works. The first TM is always used for language resources otherwise you could end up with conflicting information. It would be good if the language resources were not attached to the TM at all, but instead they were an independent resource used across all TMs on the project for example. But this is just how Studio works.

So no, it's not unique to you. But it's also not a problem, it's just the way it works.

    Regards

  • Thank you Paul,

I just created an empty TM, with a variable list attached, and put it at the front of the list of TMs.

Now, some of the variables are recognised as placeables, some are not recognised at all, and in some cases just the *beginning* of a variable is recognised as a placeable!

I closed and restarted Studio, but the problem remained.

This is a bit confusing and totally unexpected, so I thought I should let you know.

I can work around the problem by adding the variable list to the TM that is normally at the front of the list of TMs, but this TM is updated regularly by the client. That is why I thought would be easier to add the variable list to an empty TM, instead of adding the variable list every time the client sent a new TM.
