Segmentation problem in studio 2014

hello, can you help me with this?

Studio doesn't split the sentences if there is a remark number after dot

  • Hi Babele,

This is quite hard to comment on without seeing your source (just a few sentences with the affected text will be fine).  You can load a sample into here.  I knocked up a sample of the things you have reported so far using an endnote, footnote, number and subscript number.  Looks like this:

You can see that the endnote and footnote does segment, but the numbers don't.  Given your previous problem it seems clear the document has been poorly authored so if we can see a small sample of the exact problem to try then we can probably provide the more appropriate advice I think...

  • Hi,

I got your file sample, thank you. The problem you have is that this is a PDF conversion and all the proper footnote/endnote handling had been converted to plain text. So even in Word they don't behave as proper links.

This is going to be very difficult to create segmentation rules for because the breaks for a endnote (for example) will be no different to numbers that should not break. So Studio won't know how to deal with it and solving one problem will inevitably create others elsewhere.

If you have to align texts then perhaps you can try WinAlign as opposed to Studio because it offers more options (unfortunately) when aligning the text. So you could split the sentences manually and work with them more easily. Alternatively, save your alignment as an SDLXLIFF and then you can open the SDLXLIFF and edit this more effectively.
