How can you export TMs in Studio 2014?

I use SDL Trados Studio 2014 Freelance SP2.

I want to export the TUs in my TMs for backup purposes, but when I go into the translation memories view and open the relevant TM, the Export button on the toolbar is shaded in grey as unavailable and I can't find anywhere else where the export function my be accessible.

How can I export this data?

  • Thanks, Jesús! But where do I right-click on the TM? And what's the free software you're referring to? And batch files?! I'm not a programmer, just a humble translator! :-((
  • Hi Jan,

In the Translation Memories View, you've got the TMs you've already opened.

When you select a TM under Translation Memories folder, the Export button is visible on the top:

Alternatively you can right-click on the TM you wish to export, and select the Export menu:

You need to select a TM in order to see the Export button (or the Export menu). If there are no TMs in the Translation Memories View, select Open (button or pop-up menu) in Studio or just double click on the TM on your Windows Explorer.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I don't know why your Open button is greyed out.

About the backup software, I used Cobian long time ago, it was nice, good and free, but I don't use it anymore, so I can't really recommend it now. Sorry for that. Maybe a colleague can help here…

A BATCH file is nothing complex, and I could give you a template if you wish, but I think you'd better try first some solutions with a nicer user interface, like Cobian or the tool that you want to try. Let me know if you wanna try the BATCH thing. I'm not a programmer either, but I found this way the best for me.

    I hope this helps.
