Setting default source and target language pairs

When I create a new Translate Single Document project, it never displays the correct Source and Target language pairs. It shows: Source = English (United States_)and Target = blank. I want it to ALWAYS default to Source = English (Canada) and Target = French (Canada). I used to have this properly configured but after implementing an upgrade, these settings got lost. The 'Open Document' window displays right after I select  Translate Single Document and select the file to translate.

  • Hi Jocelyne,

File -> Options -> Editor and set your preferred languages. This will always work unless the source is a non-segmented TTX for example. Here if the target language is not defined in the file itself you will still get Target=blank.

  • Thank you -- I knew it had to be an easy solution :)
  • Hi Paul,

Is there maybe another setting for this? This setting is correct for me in Options > Editor.

But when I create a new project, the window with 7 steps for a new project opens, and Dutch is always my source language (it should be the target) and the target is EN-US. When I need to reselect these, I need to go through a long list of variations, so this is very inconvenient. How can I change this setting?

    Many thanks!

    (This is for Studio 2019)

  • You are working with Projects and not the single file approach. So make the changes in your default template. File -> Setup -> Project Templates. Add whatever resources, languages you want for your projects. You can have as many different templates as you like making it possible to have different languages, different TMs and termbases, different default locations for projects etc.

  • Thanks, Paul. I figured this out after a while indeed and created a new template, but I am glad you are confirming this. I don't get to work with Studio much these days, and I was considering changing how I have always used it from projects per job to projects per topic and using client/project tm's.
