How to reflect translations from one file in a project to another?

Hi, I realize this is probably a basic question, but I just started using Trados and would appreciate some instruction or maybe be pointed in the right direction.

Let's say I have a project with 2 files in it. Roughly 80% of file B is the same as file A. As I translate file A, how do I get those translations to show up in file B?

Thanks for anyone that can help.

  • Hi Jiechenq,

The first thing is to make sure you have a Translation Memory attached to your project.  Then you have at least two ways to tackle this:

    1. Translate the first file and confirm your segments to the Translation memory as you work
    2. Open the second file and run a pre-translate Batch Task which will populate your translation with matching segments from your Translation Memory

    Or...

    1. Open both files together by selecting them both and then opening them for translation
    2. As you work your results will be auto-propagated through the files ahead of you based on whatever match value you have set up

It would be a good idea to take a look at the Getting Started material installed with the product in the Welcome View.

    Regards
