DNS 13 into sdl 2015, avoid dictation box ?

I just started using sdl - so sorry, if this is a stupid question. When I try to dictate with DNS 13 into sdl 2015, there seems to be no way to avoid the dictation box.  Is there a way to dictate directly into the editor segment box? Thanks a lot!

    Hi Carola,

Walter is correct in that it does work without the dictation box. But it does not work perfectly, so you won't find anything in the settings to improve this.  If you are working with a combination of keyboard and text then I think this is the best approach and I know many translators who get a lot of productivity gains working this way.  But if you want to use Dragon commands to edits and select text then it does not work as reliably as it does in the dictation box.  My guess is this is what you have found?

We have been looking at a way to improve this via the OpenExchange because the technology used for the Studio editor is not fully supported by Dragon out of the box, which is why using the DNS dictation box can be preferred.  But we're not quite there yet.

You might find this group is a useful one for any questions on using Speech to Text technologies with our products:

  • Apart from the setting in DNS to allow the use of DNS with non-supported applications. That should allow you to at least try it out!
    Forgot about that bit!!
