Any Transifex users here?

Dear Studio users,

A client is considering to use Transifex as their localization platform.  Has anyone had experience with this platform?  I am interested in knowing whether I can continue using Studio to translate their files if they do use Transifex.

Thank you.

  • Hi Chun-yi,

Interesting question and the answer is probably going to be based on what you go and find out. Transifex is an opensource online translation management system so what you need to find out is whether or not they have the capability to provide you with bilingual files from their system for you to work on offline. If they don't then the next step, if anyone was interested, would be to see whether an integration would be possible to Studio, or maybe even our new online editor (in the future) could be integrated with their system so that Studio users could work on their projects in a more familiar environment and with their own resources.

How have you been asked to collaborate on the project? Will they send you files? Do they want everything to be managed online? I guess everything is possible, especially as they are OpenSource, but it's going to depend on how your client intends to use them.

Very interested to hear if anyone actually has any experience of working with this system though?

    Regards

  • Hi Paul,

The client is at the beginning stage of researching on a tool that would allow them to more easily extract content, share jobs with their translators/editors, and then get the translated content back into their site.
After his email asking my experience with Transifex, I wrote back expressing my concerns about whether that means I can't continue using Studio to translate their files. This is his response:

"Ideally we would find a platform that allowed our translators to still pull out xliff files and use them with their own tools."

So it does look like I will be able to continue using Studio to process their xliff files.
I mentioned Passolo to him, since he asked about other localization platforms, but honestly speaking I have never used Passolo and I don't know if it is a tool comparable to Transifex. Maybe SDL has a similar product like Transifex that I can tell the client to check out?

  • Hi Chun-yi,

ok - well in the meantime I spoke with Transifex and they support the export of XLIFF for translation and then the import back again:

But if he is looking at other platforms he could also speak to SDL!

    Regards
