I guess you are right and there is some risk in doing so. Instead of copying the entire project folder, I would in this case synchronize the files (using tools such as Total Commander, Syncovery, etc.).

Still the best approach for such a scenario would be to share the project folder in cloud storage (or use packages, which is the safest, but this requires the Professional edition and I don't know which edition you are using).

If the chapters you mention are in the same document (only one document with several chapters), I recommend another approach:

1. Decide who takes the lead of the project (e.g. linguist A) and who translates which part.
2. Send the entire document to linguist B and tell him from which segment to which segment he needs to translate (e.g. from segment 630 to the end).
3. When linguist B has finished translating his part, he sends his SDLXLIFF file to linguist A.
4. Linguist A creates a temporary TM that he assigns to his current project and imports the SDLXLIFF he received from linguist B into this TM.
5. He can now run a pretranslate, which will populate all the segments from 630 to the end in his copy of the document.
6. The advantage of this approach is that he may also review the segments translated by linguist B before finalizing the document.
7. After he has confirmed all the segments, he can save the target document and update the main TM.

If you don't need or don't want to review the work done by linguist B, then you may also import his SDLXLIFF directly into your main TM instead of creating a separate temporary TM. The reason I create a separate temporary TM is to avoid updating my main TM with non-reviewed content.
