Default location when opening a GroupShare project (Trados 2015)

Hi guys and gals,

I’ve recently noticed some odd behaviour from Trados 2015. The second screen of the Open GroupShare Project wizard suggests a folder where to save the project on my computer. For me, it ALWAYS suggests C:\Users\my username\Documents\Studio 2015\Projects\project name. It’s kind of annoying, because that’s not usually where I want to save my projects, but it’s not that big of a deal.

Here’s the odd thing : for some of my colleagues, this suggested location is different. For one colleague, it’s a folder where she once saved a project, but it’s neither the folder where she saved a project for the first time, nor the last folder she used. For another colleague, it seems to be a folder she specified back when we were using Trados 2014 (not 100% sure about this though).

This makes me think that there must be a way to specify the default folder that is suggested on this screen (seemingly unintentionally, in some cases). But to my chagrin, I’ve searched everywhere and haven’t found anything about this - does anyone know?

Thanks!

Christine

(ETA: I was trying to add a screenshot of the screen I’m talking about, but it doesn’t seem to be showing up once I post. Sorry!)

I guess the path used to store projects opened from GS is the same as the one used when creating new local projects. It should normally default to the last path that you have used.

You can find this in the file "UserSettings.xml" in C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\12.0.0.0\

    Search for: <Setting Id="RecentProjectFolder">

The path in this element should be the path you get by default. I suggest you change it and see whether it gets used in the future.

In addition, because some other users expressed their wish to be able to have a better control over this path, SDL has introduced a new option in Studio 2015 SR2. It is now possible to define the folder path in the project template, see here:

The path defined in the project template "Default" is the one used when creating single-file projects using the command "Translate Single Document", so I would assume that it is also used for storing the project folder of GS projects, but I am not sure and I don't have the possibility to test this now.

I suggest you give it a try and if it does not solve your problem, we'll wait for the comments of the GS experts on this forum.
