How can I create my own TM as quickly as possible?Aligning all my old documents but so far have only 260 TM units and I need to get to 10 000 before my own Auto suggest kicks in?

Hi:

I am aware that the software is only as good as the translator and their TM and there are really no " shortcuts" however, as a brand new user, I just check want to that I am doing this the right way? I have probably aligned about 20 documents of around 7000 words and so far my TM units seem very low as many of them have extremely long sentences and paragraphs which are simply counted as one unit! Is there something else I should be doing? At this rate it seems like it will take forever to build a decent TM!

I really appreciate any advice from experienced users out there.

  • Hi Nina,

Probably a couple of things here.  You didn't mention the version of Studio you are using but if you have Studio 2015 then you will be getting AutoSuggest value from the moment you start work... there is no size limitation.  The 10,000 TU (Translation Unit) limit is specifically related to AutoSuggest Dictionaries.  You actually have AutoSuggest from a variety of places, the dictionaries is just one of them.

The next thing would be related to your alignment issues.  You can create a TM with sentence based segmentation or paragraph based segmentation.  If you use the latter then several sentences could form one TU.  If you use sentence based segmentation then each sentence is a TU.  The default is sentence based so unless you specifically asked for paragraph segmentation that should not be the problem?

The next point is adding aligned units to your TM.  Did you confirm them before adding them, or did you rely on a quick alignment where Studio might not be adding everything you expect because the alignment wasn't very good?

There is an article here you might find helpful:
