Pictures and web pages, what to do?

Hi everybody,

I have just started using SDL Trados Studio and I would like to ask a very simple question...What should I do when I find a picture (a text which finishes with ".jpg") or a web page adress in my source text? Is it better to copy the text source in the target segment and confirm? Or is it better to leave the target segment wide and confirm? Or should I leave it unconfirmed and go on translating the other segments, although the translation will appear as unfinished? If I enter this kind of segments in my Translation Memory, could it be empty in a couple of months?

    If you source text contains web addresses (URLs), they obviously need to be transferred to the target text. However, you have two cases:

    (1) If the web address remains unchanged in the target language (which I guess is the most frequent case), don't copy the source segment to target, but leave the target empty and lock the segment. This way, you will get the URL unmodified in the target document without polluting you TM with unnecessary TUs.

    (2) If the web address needs to be adapted for the target language (for multilingual web sites), copy the source to target (CTRL-INS) and modify the corresponding portion of the URL in the target.

    Concerning the pictures, I guess you should very seldom see such file names in a source text because if your document includes a picture, this information will be hidden and not appear as such in the source segment. In case it exceptionally does, simply copy it over to the target.
