How can I show track changes after they have been accepted or rejected?

Hello,

I'm actually proofreading several files using the track changes function in Trados Studio 2014. These files have been sent back to the translator, so that he can take a look and accept or reject the changes before sending the final files back to me as proofreader.

I was wondering if there is a possibility to show e.g. the rejected changes in the files returned by the translator so that I can see which segments have been accepted and which rejected. Can you help me out?

Thanks in advance!

  • Paul, Susanne!

It just happened to me that I accepted all the tracked changes but the client actually wanted to have two xliffs: one with tracked changes, and another one with changes accepted.

So I went back to Studio (2019 and 2021) and can´t seem to find a way to revert to a document that shows my edits, which is a bummer.

Given this thread is a few years old I wonder whether they actually added such a feature in recent versions of Studio.

(I did read about the Post-Edit Compare app suggested by Paul)

    Thanks!

From what I know this behavior here is similar to what happens in Word—when you accept tracked changes there and close the document, you cannot revert it.

What helps in such cases is either a backup or—and this is what I do on daily basis—saving a copy of SDLXLIFF with tracked changes BEFORE accepting them. I do this due to ISO 17100, but it can work for everybody. And this is very simple—use advanced save or the corresponding shortcut for "Save Copy As". The good thing about this command is, that you remain editing in the file, while a real copy is saved in your chosen folder and remains untouched even if you continue working on your file.

Of course I understand, that this will not help you for the current case, but can be helpful in the future.

  • Thanks, Jerzy, I do always make copies (and copies on external devices, just in case the laptop blows up) but I was rushing to deliver and just tottally fumbled.

Feeling like a fool, just now.

Either way, seeing this was consulted 7 years ago and not finding similar discussions elsewhere, I guess this is the type of issue that does not get many request tickets.

I don´t see why not an added feature to working with track changes, or in review mode, would not include an automated generation of such copy in a vault .

Tragedies do happen, in spite of one adhering to quality and safety standards.

Thanks so much for your very quick response.

I can imagine, why Trados does not save backup copies like Word does. Would Trados do that, I'm afraid the vast majority of its users will be fooled by the number of sdlxliff files in their folders and either start to delete them or moan about "bad designed software"... Trados does not store versions within the sdlxliff file itself, as this would drive the file size very high. Trados is file based and not using database. This has advantages and disadvantages. From my experience with Trados and memoQ the advantages of file based concept are huge, but certainly there can be other views on that. For me the fact to be able to do whatever I want with sdlxliff files is a huge advantage.
