How to open XLIFF files generated with Multitrans Prism ?

I'm using Multitrans Prism which generates .xlf or .xliff files.

Receiving an .sdlxilff file from a colleague using Trados, I've changed the extension to standard .xliff and could open the file in the Mulitrans Xliff editor.

After saving the .xliff file in Multitrans, it could not be opened any more with Trados Studio. It was also impossible after having changed again the extension back to .sdlxliff.

What could be the solution for using SDL Trados .sdlxliff files in Multitrans, edit them with Multitrans and use them again with SDL Trados Studio ?

The problem is the translators using Trados Studio don't know how to make an .XLF file out of a SDLXLIFF file....
So they cannot provide me with a XLF file :-(

It's simple, if the file has the extension .XLF or .XLIFF, Studio will open it using the filetype below.

Once they have finished the translation, they do a "Save as target" as you would for any other filetype. This generates the translated XLIFF for you.

However, I don't know how compatible Multitrans XLIFF is with the standard, so it might be that you need to create a separate, slightly adapted XLIFF filetype for Prism. But I would first test this roundtrip to see how well it works.
