segment number

When I do a context search, how can I find out the segment numbers of the segments presented in the results ?

  • Hi Jean-Louis,

If you mean the number in the TM then you can't. If you need to edit them you can do this in the TM Results window so need to do this through TM Maintenance.

Hope this helps... but maybe you need to clarify your question if I have the wrong end of the stick!

    Regards

  • Hi Paul, Thanks for your answer. That's what I meant, but the negative answer is a bit disapponting. I do edit segments in the Context search results window, but if I forgot to enter a term in the TB, I cannot add it from that window, I have to do a search in the whole TM to find the segment(s) in the TM editor and then add the missed term. It would be convenient if the Context search results window would indicate the segment number to get to the segment quickly.
  • Above, instead of TM editor, I meant Translation editor...
  • Hi Jean-Louis,

I see, now I get your usecase. So you mean concordance results based on content that is actually in the file you happen to be working on rather than a result from your TM that you might have added 6-months ago for example. In this case maybe you could just use the simple search, Ctrl+F, to find the segment you need?

However, you didn't mention what version of the software you have but adding terms from the concordance result window should be possible in Studio 215 SR2.

  • Thanks, Paul,
I have Studio 2015 SR2, but it doesn't let me add terms from the context search results. The option "Add a term" is inactive.

  • Hi Jean-Louis,

There are two places to add a term, and one of them is in the concordance result window.  Did you try them both?

To be honest I find this a little flaky and it can be a bit hit and miss.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't... but most of the time it does.  I can't put my finger on why it fails yet.  It might even be related to the words you found and are trying to add.  For example, when I tried to add "Getting Started" as two words then only the bigger icon was available to me... but it also didn't correctly pick up the terms.  If I select single words then it's working perfectly.

Perhaps something in this will be helpful for you to find why it's not working.

    Regards

  • Hi Paul

I have also experienced that the new function to add a term from the Concordance window sometimes does not work. Recently it would not work at all, even after relaunching Studio. The next day, it suddenly worked again.
I shall try to be attentive in the near future, hoping to find out a pattern, so you can fix this because the function is really useful.
