Joint segments

I just downloaded and install an Trados-Update and I don't understand, why to joint segments is already frequently impossible.

In my text I have a lot of abbreviations and because of this I need to join a lot of segments that Trados separate. Trados seems unable to resolve this big small problem.

No way to joint many of them, no help, no changes... so I still work with MemoQ. Many more user-friendly and Contact possibilities are better.

  • Hi Claudia,

In this case I think it may be related to paragraph breaks.  You can't merge across paragraph breaks in Studio.  If you have an example of one that doesn't work and you don't see a good reason for it then feel free to share a screenshot and we can try and explain why not.

For example, in this screenshot below you can see I can merge segments #9 and #10 because they are part of the same paragraph (the column on the right shows segments #9, #10 and #11 are all the same paragraph).  But if I try to merge segments #11 and #12 then this will not work because I am crossing a paragraph break.

Paragraph breaks are caused by things like hard returns.  Sometimes people use a hard return in a document where a line break would have been more appropriate and then you have this problem to deal with because the segments should really be merged, but you can't.  So you have to address them in the source file, or edit the source in Studio and make a manual adjustment, or just try to translate the segments on two lines.

I hope this maybe sheds some light on the problem for you?
