T2007: Unable to import a TMX export from ST2014

Question

I'm having a puzzling problem... I want to export a TM from a project in Studio 2014 to be able to import it in a TM for Trados 2007, since my client is not working with Studio. Even when I check the option to optimize it for Workbench in Trados 2007, the file I get cannot be imported in Workbench. Simply because the .tmx file is not even showing! I opened it in Notepad++ and saved it as .txt -- maybe not the way to get a .txt TM file, but it's not working either, Workbench doesn't see it at all. The most intriguing part is that, unable to create clean and unclean files for my client, when I want to select the Studio TM to send through Gmail, files are showing under many other extensions (.iix, .mdf, .mwf and .mtf) but the ones I need. Luckily enough I was able to drag and drop the .sdltm and the .tmx files directly from the folder on my computer and to send these files to my client. This is very strange! Do you have any idea what could be causing this problem and of any possible solution to it? Oh, the original .sdltm file was provided (empty) by the client. Maybe that could be the source of the problem, if it was created with another version of Trados or Studio?

 When you say "the .tmx file is not even showing!", do you mean after the export or in the Open command of Workbench? 
 Does the TM file contain anything? If yes, can't you create a new empty TM in Workbench and import the TMX file? Does the TM file contain anything?

 I don't know how much experience you have with these tools so apologies for the answer if it's a bit basic. You seem to have a couple of things going on here.

 First of all, what file did you get when you exported from Studio? You mention the TMX is not even showing and then you said you renamed it to *.txt. You can't just rename files to a different extension and expect this to work, they are completely different formats.

 Next you mention four of the five files that make up a Trados 2007 Translation Memory. So you seem to have created a TM in Trados 2007, and you would use this to import the TMX if you can find it! 
 But I'm quite confused about what you have here. All you really need to do is export the TMX and send this to your client. You could also convert your translated files, the sdlxliff files, to a TMX rather than your entire Translation Memory. So in addition to the useful tools Walter Blaser mentioned you could try this one:

That's not really what the user was saying... although it may be what she meant!! It's a shame you didn't answer the original question and it might have saved a lot of confusion! 
 Here's a simple answer to your question. .. possibly simple since nothing is ever that simple. It only seems that way when you're just starting out. 
 Yes, I have an answer to that question. Use this option when exporting your TMX: 
 
 If you did this then I may have more answers... but unless you tell me a little more about your problem it's hard to give a simple response. So did you get any kind of messages... what does "it won't import" mean? Did nothing happen at all, did you get a warning, what version of Trados 2007 are you using. You might think the languages are the same... Trados is pretty old and might not have the same opinion!
