Translating *dotm documents with field functions that contain static texts assembled from master documents

Hello,

I have a pretty special *.docm Word document (with macros) that I would like to process with Studio.

The author of the document apparently assembles it from various Master documents, so that it contains field functions. As he does not want to send us all his master documents, he has "locked" these inserted texts so that they do not try to automatically update themselves but remain static. The texts appear with a grey background in the document (similar to TOCs, figure numbers, etc.), but will not update/change when pressing F9.

When I import this document into Studio, all these texts are turned into tags so that I cannot edit these texts. Is any special setting necessary so that I can acutally translate these texts, too?

Thank you.

  • Hi Tanja,

It's not possible to translate the texts in these fields because they are drawn from other documents. These should be translated wherever they are drawn from. If not then two things could happen:

    1. The target document would have no fields in it at all.
    2. When your client updates his files all your translations would be replaced by whatever was in the original fields.

Maybe, if your client doesn't care about the fields then you could simply replace them with text in the source documents, and then you can translate them in Studio.

    Regards
