"The file was not created by supported version of Microsoft Excel application and will not be processed"

Error message when adding new file to Studio 2014 SP2: "The file was not created by supported version of Microsoft Excel application and will not be processed". Experienced this with Word and Excel files received from clients as well as simple files created by myself. Possibly related to latest Microsoft update? Anyone else experience same issue?

  • Hi everybody,

I am experiencing the same problem while being unable to open any MS Office files in TRADOS 2011. I am running Wondows 8, MS Office 365, and I am trying to open Excel (xlsx) or Word files in Trados and the following message pops up: "The file was not created by supported version of Microsoft Excel application and will not be processed". The only file type which opens is RTF (but its too big and takes 20 minutes to open in Trados 2011). I re-installed the MS Office 365 and again no effect. I am desperate as I need to do my work and TRADOS 2011 still rejects any Office files... I tried to convert xlsx files into previous Excel versions - yet again teh same error message...
  • This is indeed a format problem - Studio 2011 does not support (understandingly) formats, which are newer than the product itself. As you state, you use Office 365 - and this format is indeed not supported by Studio 2011. At least this is my knowledge.
Solution: downgrade your Office to Office 2010 or upgrade to Studio 2015.
