Character omitted by Trados (Edo)

We are working on a document (InDesign) with the language combination English-Edo (Nigerian). The translator has worked with an external file for review. When importing this file one character used in the Edo-alphabet (old italic letter ku / U+10312) is omitted. The character is present in the Word-file. Copy pasting the letter into Trados results in a small box-character being displayed. Font mapping with an alternative font has been enable, but doesn't have any effect. What could be the cause?

  • Hi Marta,

Maybe you made the font mapping change after the project was created already, or maybe you made the change in a project template that is not being used for this project, or maybe you changed the wrong filetype? Try the following:

    1. Make sure the font you need is available on your system
    2. Enable font mapping for the appropriate language in the appropriate filetype in File -> Options
    3. Open the file for translation using the "Translate Single Document" approach

    Did this work?

    Regards

    Paul

  • Hi!

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, this didn't change anything.

I've tried to change the font mapping settings in the InDesign section to Arial Unicode. When trying to open File -> Options, I now receive the following error:
    Culture is not supported
4096 (0x1000) is an invalid culture identifier

    EDIT:

I had to reset the user profile in order to be able to access the options-menu again.

But when I access "Font mapping" under InDesign I now get "Failed to create setting page", "Culture is not supported".
