TM doesn't attach to project - yet shown active in project settings

Dear all,

I'm a first time user of Studio 2015. I think I've basically grasped the concept of TMs, TBs and projects. However, I have the following problem and I'm getting nervous as I need to get a translation done.

I created a MASTER_TM, saved it in a new folder on my D drive (not C where Trados suggests) where all my translation work is stored. I have then, just to practice, aligned an old translation, which went fine. The segments are in this TM.

I then created a project (without the option of a project TM) with several documents which I merged for translation and attached the previously created MASTER_TM. In the project settings (or whatever it's called in English) this TM shows with all its ticks. Yet in the Editor, it says that there's no TM attached.

Just for the sake of it, I created a new TM from within the project and this one works.

What do I need to do for the Editor to recognize my MASTER_TM? Is there a typical beginners' mistake I made?

Thank you very much for your support

Uli

  • Hi Uli,

When you created your TM from within the project did you also save that on your D: drive? This should not make any difference as long as Studio can read to that location so I'm wondering whether this is where the problem lies since your explanation doesn't sound wrong at all.

    Regards

  • Hi Paul,

Yes, I saved this in the same place as the "Master_TM". But I think I now know what the problem was. I was a bit sloppy with my language pairs. In the TM, I said German (Germany) and English (UK). And in the project I set the pairs to German (Germany) and English (Europe).

I tried to add language pairs, but it still didn't work. So I deleted the TM, started again, clicked the pairs German (Germany) and English (Europe) and now it works like a dream. I remembered reading/hearing somewhere that once English, always and all Englishes, but this is true only for the setup of Studio, as I found out the hard way. After all the First Steps, videos, blogs, forums, etc. I got massively befuddled by all the information.

Thanks for getting back to me. Studio 15 is such a powerful tool, I guess you'll see me again in this forum ;-).

    Thanks again and regards,

    Uli
