Question

I can't seem to open any files suddenly in Trados. I get a variation on these messages with almost all files. What can I do? It's happened in the last 48 hours nd seems to affect most files, from different clients.

Hi Lucy, 
 It's because the monolingual files you have got contain the tw4winMark style and this is usually specific to bilingual doc files. Studio uses this style to help recognise bilingual doc files. But as the file is really monolingual you need to check the box on the filetype before opening it in Studio that says this: 
 
 Then it should open.

Hi Lucy, 
 It's on the filetypes. You have to do this before you prepare your project, otherwise it's too late, so go to File -> Options -> Filetypes and then navigate to the filetype you need. In your case it will be one of the Word filetypes. Best to set them up like this too so you use the DOCX filetype instead of the old one: 
 
 I'm assuming you have Studio 2015 or you would have mentioned you have an old version?

ok - same process but you might have different Word files that's all. So it looks like this:

Open up the filetypes and look for the Common node as I showed earlier. In there you'll find the option for the tw4win thing.

Hi Lucy, 
 
No files should need to be in ODT format if the only problem is the style. You should check the following: 
 
1. That you made the appropriate changes in the DOC and DOCX filetypes if your source are both formats 
2. That your source files are a version of Word you can handle. If they are Office 2016 then Studio 2014 won't be able to open them anyway, and in this case downsaving the Word version or saving as ODT (OpenOffice format) would work 
 
An alternative solution is to remove the tw4win styles from the source files in Word.
