Solution for error when starting Studio: "Service 'Sdl.TranslationStudio.AlignmentEditor.IAlignmentEditorService' could not be started" (June 2016)

When you start SDL Trados Studio, you receive following error:

Symptom 1:

Service 'Sdl.TranslationStudio.AlignmentEditor.IAlignmentEditorService' could not be started

Clicking on Show error details displays the additional errors

Cannot validate SDL plug-in: Sdl.FileTypeSupportFillters.JavaResource.JavaResourceComponentBuilder [...]
Could not load file or assembly ' Sdl.FileTypeSupportFillters.JavaResource [...]

Symptom 2:

Before or when running a repair installation of SDL Trados Studio, you my receive a message from your security suite that the fileSdl.FileTypeSupport.Filters.JavaResource.dll is harmful and has been removed.

Root Cause

Virus scanner erroneously identified the file "Sdl.FileTypeSupport.Filters.JavaResource.dll" as harmful and deleted it.

Resolution

Solution: Add Studio installation folder as an exception to antivirus scanner and run a repair installation

Exclude the following folder from scanning:

On Microsoft Windows 64bit OS:
- For SDL Trados Studio 2015: C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio4
- For SDL Trados Studio 2014: C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio3
- For SDL Trados Studio 2011: C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio2
On Microsoft Windows 32bit OS:
- For SDL Trados Studio 2015: C:\Program Files\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio4
- For SDL Trados Studio 2014: C:\Program Files\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio3
- For SDL Trados Studio 2011: C:\Program Files\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio2
Run a repair installation of SDL Trados Studio
1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features.
  NOTE: Windows 8 users can open the Run… dialog with the keyboard shortcut [Windows key + R] > type: Control Panel and press OK.
2. Locate and highlight the SDL Trados Studio entry.
3. Click Repair to start the repair installation.

How do you repair under Windows 10? I only get the option to remove.

Yes, this is the problem of having two places to change settings in Windows 10. They overlap and confuse the user because he does not know what to do where. Hope Microsoft is going to correct this soon.

You need to go to "Programs and features" in the "Control Panel" instead of the new "Settings".

The easiest way to get there is to right-click on the START button and choose "Programs and Features". There, you'll ave the choice to repair.
