Error message when "saving target as"

I combined several small Word files, finished translating them and was just saving them as Word files again. The first two went fine, then I got the message

"Failed to save target content" and then in German "Storage medium structure (Datenträgerstruktur) damaged and unreadable"

Any idea what this could be? Which storage medium is Studio talking about? The hard disk? I'd really appreciate your assitance, last resort would be to handcopy the segments into a Word document or, which is probably better, usethe preview tool.

Interestingly, the first two files show in the window when STUDIO is trying to save the individual files, but they do not show up in the explorer. Very disturbing.

    Now .... this is getting curiouser and curiouser.

    When I went via the Word preview - luckily I've got the Office Pro version - and tried to save the preview file, STUDIO suggested a location with the same file name in the temp directory. For example:

    Computer >> OS (C:) >> Users >> Uli >> AppData >> Local >> Temp >> SDLTempFileManager >> x2ssgljp.xkg

    When I checked out this directory there were umpteen copies under today's date and time when I tried to "save target as". So they are there and when I click them ... lo and behold ...  they open up in Word with the proper name and everything intact.

    So there's a workaround (which I could happily do without), but ...


    ... where's the hitch?

    What do you mean exactly by "combine"? How exactly did you proceed? Did you use the "Merge" option in project creation?

    I suggest you don't merge the files physically, but use the "virtual merge" option and open the multiple files together (in the view "Files", select several files, then right-click and select "Open for translation"). This will open all files in the Editor as one big file to work on without physically merging the files. As soon as you close the document in the Editor, the merge is gone. You still have your individual files.

    Saving actively ANYTHING in that path is next to data suicide, as this path is the temporary storage path in Windows and can be emptied within seconds for example by your anti-virus software.
    In Studio please use "Save target as" and actively CHOSE the folder, where the files have to go to.
    But if you merged the files into one file and one of the files does not save as target due to an error, no files will be then stored - this is maybe why you do not find them in the directory. If this is the case, create a new project with the same Word files and exactly the same TM, but do NOT merge the files. Pretranslate from TM, open the files together (virtual merge) and translate remaining parts. Then save the files with "Save target as", choosing the destination folder. If you get any errors for one of the files, most probably the file itself is somehow damaged. Could you please share the file with me? If so, please send to jerzy at czopik dot com.

    Dear Jerzy, I had no intention at all and would never dream of saving anything in the TEMP folder. This is where STUDIO seems to temporarily dump files before they sort of become "final". I did chose my target folder, but for whatever reason - probably my fault - it refused to file it there. I eventually managed to sort the problem, probably not in an elegant way, but I got the target files for the customer in time. Thank you for offer to help! Kind regards Uli
