Accented characters stopped working with US International Keyboard

Under Windows 10 and Studio 2015, I have worked with accented characters without any problem until all of a sudden these characters stopped working. I can't pinpoint it to any particular update or installation. The keyboard works perfectly with all applications until I open Studio. Is there a solution to this?

  • Hi Jean-Claude,

I don't have any experience with this particular problem but perhaps it's language related? Is the keyboard layout changing when you use Studio perhaps?

    Regards

  • Hello Jean-Claude, I have recently been experiencing (intermittently though) the same problem you describe.
This only appeared about a month into my use of Studio (I started using Studio in May or June of this year), and now it only appears after about 30 + minutes of use of Studio.
Closing the file and reopening it again allows for approximately half hour of keying in characters with Alt + Code normally, using the numeric pad. Then, abruptly, the message "Cannot access a disposed object..." reappears.
I have been using the "Alt+code" using the Numeric Pad (Num Lock engaged) to write in the French language for over thirty years now. This technique is compatible with every other environment, including Trados 7.5, Word 2007, Word 2013, memoQ, Notepad, ...everything I have tried.
Walter Blaser from LTconsult answered a similar question by Hector Martinez in 2015, saying that this (inability to key in accented chars) is standard in MS Office. Yet, on my Windows 10 computer, I am able to use Alt / codes and the numeric pad in Excel, Word and PowerPoint, as well as everywhere else, as I have been doing for years.
Is it truly impossible to input foreign characters this way in Studio 2015? This would constitute what they call here a "Show Stopper."
This is a serious problem. As it seems to be the case with you, I work in the US and need to use Studio on several different platforms--all using US, QWERTY keyboards of course. Have you contacted anyone? Do you have any answers or useful advice? People are usually quick to respond by saying "You perhaps have forgotten to activate the Numeric Keypad, is Num Lock activated?"
