Error Message when converting PDF (Trados Studio 2015, Freelance / Win10)

Hi

In the past 24 hours I have been unable to convert any PDF files into projects. Trados throws the following error when finishing the project setup: "Failed in Framework.dll". Has anyone else out there experienced the same and, even better, got a solution?

TIA / brgds

Ian

  • Hi Ian,

This dll isn't packed with Studio so I'm not sure where this error is coming from.  Is there a more detailed error stack you can provide?  So you have the option to save a file from the error message like this:

In the meantime this article, with an alternative method for handling PDFs might also be interesting for you if you haven't considered an alternative way to handle PDFs with Studio before:

  • Hi Paul

Apologies for not providing the error file (see below). Perhaps there has been a Windows / Trados update which has caused this issue. I am not aware of any other system changes which might have stopped this important (for me at least) function working.

While it is comforting to know that a possible solution exists (INFix), I would rather continue as in the past given that everything has worked fine for years.

Look forward to your input and (hopefully) a solution / plausible workaround.

  • Hi Ian,

ok - it looks as though a reinstall or a repair installation might help this. This part suggests it might be a deplyoment problem and something is missing.

    <ErrorMessage>Failed to load C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio4\SolidFramework\SdAppSrv</ErrorMessage>

If that doesn't help can you try the usual and rest Studio by renaming this folder (just add _old to the end or something, it's not important what you rename it to) and restart Studio:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\12.0.0.0

    Regards

  • Hi Paul

    Thanks for the speedy response.

I renamed the file but Trados still throws errors when converting PDFs. Of the 3 PDFs in a new project I got the same Failed in Framework error twice and one new error (see below).

Puzzles me why this issue should arise all of a sudden.

I assume the reinstall option is all that is left to me, isn't it? If so, I hope I can still find my license code ;-/.

    Best
