I'm working with a package with a TM in it. Can I update my own translation memories?

I'm quite new to Studio and I guess this question may be really basic but I don't know how to do it.

I received a package from a client with a TM that already contains some segments. Is it possible to update my own file-based TMs with the segments on this TM? Or at least with the segments I will translate myself?

If this is possible, will the client know that I updated my TMs?

Thanks for your help!!

  • Short answer: yes, you can, and no, your client wouldn't necessarily know.

To do this, you would need to go to Project Settings - Language Pairs - All Language Pairs (or Specific Language Pair, depending on where your client placed their TM)- Translation Memory and Automated Translation and choose Add (or Create if you want to create a new TM). Once your TM has been added, just make sure you check the Update checkbox on the far right, and it will get updated with the new content you translate. You can add as many TMs as you'd like by doing this, and as long as you check the Update box, they all get updated as you work.
