"Apply translation" grayed out

Hi all,

When I'm translating a document and there's a similar segment in the TM, Trados doesn't insert it sometimes and I thought you could just choose any segment from the TM with CTRL + [number] and then CTRL + T to apply the translation. But the Apply Translation option is grayed out and I don't know why. Do I have to tweak something? I am very fond of keyboard shortcuts and I would love to be able to do all this without the mouse.

Kind regards,

Pepe

  • Hi Pepe,

It sounds to me as though you are looking at a Concordance Search result and not a TM result. The apply translation feature greys out with a concordance result because you really only want the part found and highlighted (possibly) and not the whole segment. If you are using Studio 2015 SR2 then you can enter this easily via autosuggest, but for earlier versions you would need a keyboard combination to work without a mouse. Something like this I think (although there are many users in here who do this without thinking and may have a better approach):

    Ctrl+Tab to the concordance window
Select your text with the keyboard
Ctrl+Alt+F3 to insert the selected text into the target segment

    Regards
