Retrofit

Hello, I am trying to update the TM thanks to Retrofit. But there are misalignment problems : some segments remain isolated (some segments appearing in the original target file do not appear in the reviewed target file). I assume that this is due to the presence of hypertext links and also tags. Could it be true and what could I do? Thanks.

  • Hi Murielle,

I just ran a quick test like this:

So I saved the target file, made a few changes by adding a new sentence, deleting one, adding some tags and a hyperlink.  I made sure yo click on the option to open the retrofit into the alignment editor first and then I corrected the alignment as above.

I then saved the alignment into the sdlxliff in the editor:

That also worked fine.  So I guess the problem is going to more complex.

I guess the first thing is that retrofit could be problematic if you made a lot of changes in the target file.  In reality it should be light edits.  If it is more than that then I'd recommend you use the conventional alignment approach to get the changes into your TM as this will be more forgiving for major changes.  Did you try to update the file into the alignment editor first or did you just allow it to go straight to the sdlxliff and the translation editor as in my second screenshot?  If the alignment is a lot off then this may be a possibility as you will not have made any corrections for misalignment first.

Maybe something in here will help trigger a thought of how you could tackle this in a different way?  If not I'd be happy to take a look at your files?

    Regards

  • Hi Paul, many thanks for your prompt response.

I cannot show you the files as I must respect a confidentiality clause, but thanks for offering.

However, here are some of my hypertext links, that do not appear in the reviewed target file.

I usually open the alignment editor, check that the alignment looks straightforward (in this case, it does not because there is an offset due to segments remained isolated) and then click on the icon "Update SDLXLIFF File". By the way, the version of Studio I have is 2015.

You wrote "use the conventional alignment approach", what does that mean?

    Thanks again for your help.

    Murielle.

That means you take the original source files, and your updated target files, and then align them using the alignment tools.  Don't use retrofit as part of your ongoing project.
