There is a .dtp file format, it is used by Publish-iT but as Paul says, usually when someone asks for the DTP format they mean they'd like you to save as target to the original format, presumably because they supply you with an original file in that format. Sometimes you can only do that if you have the desktop publishing software that the format comes from - InDesign, Quark Xpress, Interleaf Quicksilver or Microsoft Publisher for example.

My guess would be that the 'DTP legacy' you mention is actually in the desktop publishing software File menu, and that you have the software. Let's say that's QuarkXpress, which I think does have a legacy menu item to save to a previous version. However, I don't think that is what the client would mean here. I think that probably they want you to produce a file in the desktop publishing format the file came to you in. So once you have finished translating, you can produce that with the sdlxiff file open and saved in Studio, via > File > Save Target As. When I do this, I give it a different name by adding the abbreviation for the language I have translated into, EN for example. That way I can compare the original file I received before creating an sdlxliff with the 'Saved Target As' translated version (though I usually do this by creating a PDF of each and comparing them).

That's my guess here, anyway... Hope this helps rather than hinders ;-))

Ah... now I see what you meant!  This is just for preparing these legacy (old formats) filetypes for translation.  Using this option allows you to use the old Trados S-Tagger to convert old versions of Framemaker and QuickSilver files to TTX so they can be handled in Studio.

But I think it's a good idea to clarify this with your client.
