Does Retrofit work for InCopy (ICML) files?

I'm getting a "One or more files not supported" error message when trying to retrofit INCOPY files. Would retrofit work for InCopy files if I improved how I have been handling them?

I copied the translated ICML files back to exactly the folder they originally came from, overwriting the original files, before opening the translated fInCopy assignments to tweak the translation in the layout view and generate ICAP packages for the client. And I can see why that isn't a great approach and could throw up problems for retrofit. But would retrofit work (for ICML and/or for IDML) if I came up with a more satisfactory workflow?

  • Hi Sarah,

Yes, Retrofit should work the same way for all supported file formats in Studio. I don't completely understand what you mean by copying and overwriting the ICML files but if you are using a single document workflow this is probably not the best idea. With Retrofit all you need to do is create your Studio project, save the target ICML files after they are translated in Studio, make the edits to the target file and import the edited ICML using Retrofit to apply the changes. There should be no need to overwrite files anywhere.

    Regards
