Error/warning message Studio Freelance 2015

Hello everybody!

I'm Marika from Italy and I'm new of this community but I need help!

I work with Trados Studio Freelance 2014 update to 2015 and I have a big, big problem with a file. This is the message that appears after the file download:

This file was created using a file type definition that does not exist on your system (Lydia). The following functionality will be restricted or unavailable:
- saving
- verification
- quick tags
- preview."

What should I do? And, what's worse it's making me crazy!

Thank so much for your kind help!

Marika

  • Hi Marika,

This just means you have an sdlxliff file you are working on that was created using a filetype definition you don't have. It won't stop you being able to translate the file but you will only be able to send back the sdlxliff fully translated. You can't recreate the target file or have the benefit of any of the things in the message you get.

If your client sends you the filetype definition then you get rid of the message, but it's not essential to being able to complete the translation task.

    Regards

  • Hi Paul,
managing the SDLXLIFF file is somehow different from my usual workflow.
I usually import an original file, work on the translation and than export the target file for my client. This seems not to work with SDLXLIFF.
But you said I can send the SDXLIFF fully translated... So, how can I close the project and have the right file to send to the client, without using the "usual" functions "finalize file", "update main translation memory" and "create/export target translation"?
Thanks a lot for your help!
    Regards,
    Marika
  • Hi Marika,

The good news is that the file you are actually working on is the SDLXLIFF.  So no need to run any tasks to get it at all.  If you don't know where to find it just go to the files view in Studio, then right-click on your file and select "Explore Containing Folder":

This will open up windows explorer at the location where your sdlxliff file is.  Just send a copy of this to your client.

If you were a Trados user in the past the sdlxliff is essentially equivalent to a TTX or  BilingualDOC.  So it's the unclean file.  Your client will be able to clean it up and recover the target file as well as update their TM from it.

    Regards

    Paul
