Hello Davide,
This thread was moved by someone into this group, probably because you are asking how to add additional languages through Hunspell... at least referring to something I've said in the past in this way is what you seem to be asking. This is different to the question you asked me in my blog. That was about the API.
So, let's try and understand what you're really trying to achieve here. First of all Studio can use two different spell checkers out of the box. Microsoft and Hunspell. If you use Microsoft then this is controlled by the language packs you have installed for spelling in Microsoft Office as we use the same ones.
If you use Hunspell then this is based on the OpenSource spelling dictionaries provided in various tools and with these they are all based on the available languages that we install by default into here:
c:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio4\HunspellDictionaries\
In this location you will find the *.aff and *.dic files for all the supported language pairs. So for Italian this includes these already:
it_IT.aff
it_IT.dic
If you wanted to add a different flavour then you could take a copy of these files, rename them as something else, like this for example:
it_CH.aff
it_CH.dic
And add a line into the spellcheckmanager_config.xml file that sits in the same folder like this:
<language>
<isoCode>it-CH</isoCode>
<dict>it_CH</dict>
</language>
Restart Studio and now you have the Swiss variant of Italian available to you.
However, based on your post in my blog I think you are actually referring to this:
This is something else and to integrate this with Studio would require a developer to use the Studio API to integrate with this tool. So if you originally posted into the developer community then I think this information is the bit you are missing.
You are looking for a developer who can integrate this LanguageCode application into Studio.
This then raises an obvious question immediately. Is this something you are willing to pay for, or do you just want to see if there are any willing developers who would take this on for free?

Hi Davide,
The aff and dic files are specific to Hunspell I think... so Language Tools may well use these as the basis of their own checking but I really have no idea. Certainly I don't think you'll find them in the LanguageTools installer.
The way Antidote works is that a developer created a plugin that can talk to Antidote via an API. This allows Studio to send text to Antidote and then Antidote can use it to do the checking. It also allows edits to the text to be made in Antidote and these are automatically applied to the translation in Studio... again via the API.
So if you wanted to see the same type of integration between Studio and LanguageTools then a developer would need to look at the API documentation in LanguageTools and see what was possible to achieve. It won't be by copying aff and dic files, although if LanguageTools did have them and you were able to use them in Studio then all this would do is allow you to use the content of the dictionaries for spellchecking in Studio. It would not support any of the linguistic checking that LanguageTools apparently carries out, or grammar checking. This would definitely have to be via the API and this means a developer doing some work.
Hope that clears up your question?

Paul

Hi Davide,
Since posting this I was alerted to a plugin by Jordi Serratosa that is currently in Beta here:
forum.languagetool.org/.../1172
The plugin is safe, and it could potentially be the answer to your question. Maybe you can test it and contact the developer with your feedback through the forum he shared this in?
