Failed to save target content: Name cannot begin with the '<' character, hexadecimal value

I use Studio 2015 freelance, and I have created a single file project, original format pdf. When saving target I get the following error message: Failed to save target content: Name cannot begin with the '<' character, hexadecimal value.

I tried the fixes suggested here:

http://kb.sdl.com/?portalid=23&articleid=6797#tab:homeTab:crumb:7:artId:6797.

Unfortunately none of these seem to work for me (apparently this problem should not exist in Studio 2015).

Any suggestions? Deadline monday morning.

Thank you for any suggestions!

Pia

  • Well, a bit of a longshot, but try to change Always process hyperlinks to one of the other two alternatives in the PDF file type settings, and then re-translate the PDF.

You could also try to set up a project with the PDF file as source file. When you have prepared it in Studio there will be DOCX file in the source language folder. Use that as your source instead of the PDF file. Drag and drop it in your Studio project and run the batch task Prepare without Project TM, and translate away. Before preparing it in Studio you can open it and check if it looks OK.

Hope any of that will help.

  • Thank you Daniel for your suggestions! I cannot find "Always process hyperlinks" on my version (2015 Freelance). However, I tried unticking "Extract Hyperlinks" to no avail.

As for creating a project first, it seems to work. At least with an untranslated file there is no error message when I create a target file. I will finish up my single project file and then translate the project with the tm I created. Fingers crossed it works!

    Thank you for your help!
