Hi to all, encountering problems with xml files.

Hi to all, 
 
 I feel quite naive (even though I have been using Trados since 1997 or so), and never experienced this one before: 
 I have received six xml files from my client, originally bilingual, not all could be opened and later on I got monolingual files, did not work either. 
 I can open three of the original bilingual files in Studio 2015, the other three give error messages like "Prescanning failed to identify the file type..." and "Pre-scanning Error: The 'phrase' start tag on line 2030 position 4 does not match the end tag of 'sitecore'. Line 19677 position 3. 
 Of course I would like to translated and deliver to my customer, but quite confused on what to do or how to handle this. Besides that, the bilingual files (that I could open) are opened like that so I see the same term twice . 
 Xml files are not my specialty, would like to start as soon as possible without causing too much trouble to my customer either.

Hi Hilde,
First, the error you get seems to be a parser error: this means that the file is not following the XML rules, for example an opening tag like <document> without the corresponding closing tag </document>. You will have to find the problem first to be able to prepare it in Studio. Always ask your customer in such case, he has do give you proper files or the whole process is in danger (you may end with translated files which cannot be imported).

Then, second point, if you get twice the same segments, it means that you have to set the source (you will have to check which tag represents the source, maybe just <source>) as “not translatable”. This way, Studio knows that it does not have to prepare the source occurrence. Prepare the files again after any change in the file type. To do this, you will have to analyze the XML structure.
