NUMBER OF SEGMENTS (TU) IN A TM

When I open a TM from the Translation memory panel I can only see a few segments. How can I view the whole TM? How can I find out how many segments the TM is made up of? I was told I could move one page forward or backward page by clicking on the blue arrows in the toolbar on the top. However, I still cannot see all the pages that make up a TM. I can see a blue bar on top of the "list" of TU, and there are two arrows on the right side but they seem to be grayed out, and nothing happens when I click on them. In the "list" of TU I got there are some numbers missing (I got 2, 6, 7, 9, 11, 15 and so on). Any idea of why this is happening?

  • Hi,

To see how many segments are in your TM you can right-click on it in the TM maintenance view and then click on settings:

You'll see the number of TUs here:

To navigate through the pages of a TM you do use these arrows:

If they are all greyed then perhaps the number of TUs in the TM you are looking at has less than the number you have setup per page?

I think the two arrows you refer to on the right are the ones for switching between multiple TMs that you have open?

  • I forgot about your missing numbers... this can happen if you delete TUs either in the TM maintenance View or through the Translation Results window when translating.  Each TU has a unique ID so if you delete one the numbering will change.

  • Thanks for your answer, Paul. However, I didn't work on the TM in the maintenance view or delete any results in the Translation Results window, so i am not sure why some numbers are missing.

  • Hi,

In this case it's probably the result of you confirming a segment and overwriting the previous translation.  This will also have the effect of moving the numbering on.  You can test this easily if you create an empty TM, open a document with only one word in it, then copy source to target and confirm.  This will add the single TU as #1 in your TM.  Now change the target and confirm again and you will see the number in the TM will now be #2 (if you refresh the view first).

It's nothing to worry about, just how Studio is keeping a record of the "transactions" you are making.
