Is it possible to edit the source document after you started translating it. Can you add new paragraphs to the source document?

Many times, after I've started translating a document, there are changes or updates to the source document that I need to insert in the source document. Instead of cancelling what you started and creating a new project with the updated source document, is it possible to modify the source document in the Studio Editor and continue your translation? I use WorldServer to create translation projects, if I can modify the source document in Studio, how does this impact the file that was used to create the project?

    You mention that you use Worldserver. Worldserver actually has a versioning capability that allows you to update the source document and then restart the workflow. All you have to do is ensure you save whatever you currently have to TM before doing so. You can then download a new tkit and use Trados to translate that. Documentation on this can be found Here.

    Hi, Eric. Thank you for answering my question. Indeed, I use Worldserver to create translation projects and to host my TMs, etcetera, but I almost never use the WS Workbench to translate; for that, I use Studio 2015. It seems that the Documentation refers to updating a source document in the Workbench, is that so?

    No, the documentation simply states that you 'could' use the browser workbench (BWB) to save the current translation to TM. It also notes that if you use live TM this is a non issue as all translations are saved to TM immediately. If neither of those are the case, you will need to have a save step in your WS workflow where you update TM. Then you'd just send the task(s) down that transition. One thing to note with that method is that in your WS workflow, ALL actions will allow updates by default. Below is the text about this from the linked document above. Again, if you are not using live TM or the BWB to save to TM, this will be important.

    "You can define exactly at what points of the workflow tasks are permitted to be updated, using the Apply pending update after completing step check box in the Advanced Options dialog of any human or automatic action. The default setting of this attribute is true, so the default behavior of WorldServer is to restart tasks in a Pending update state once the current workflow steps have been completed. Tasks will either be restarted by a workflow engine once the current automatic step completes, or by WorldServer once a user completes a human step in the workflow."
