Autosubstitution of dates: automatic format has a comma typo

In Studio 2015 under Project Settings > Language Pairs > [language direction] > Translation Memory and Automated Translation > Autosubstitution > Dates, there is a typo in the "Long date" format. The drop-down includes the format "d MMMM, yyyy" that contains an unneeded comma. So the autosubstitution will write, say, "3 November, 2016" instead of "3 November 2016". I can't find a style guide that uses the comma before the year when the numeral for the day appears before the month, so I don't know by what rationale the comma was included there in the first place. (By contrast, you do use commas when the day comes after: "November 3, 2016" would be correct.) Is there any way to customize these date autosubstitution formats (or to get this fixed in an upcoming release and/or in Studio 2017)?

  • Hello Erik,

This is drawn from your operating system.

If I look at the National Language Support API Reference then I see the image above for dates.  Note the format for en(US) dates that are suggested.  If you want to change these then you might have some success by changing the language in question in the windows date/time settings... but not recommended unless yopu are working on your own since customisations like this won't be fed through a wider supply chain.

I can't comment on what's correct or not... only where they come from.

    Regards

    Paul
