Hi, everybody! I would like to ask you how you usually use the customized fields. I will explain my personal case, in order to know which is the best way to use them and to know if I am doing something wrong... In the enterprise where I work (there are four translators, each one with his/her own computer), I created and I always use the customized fields "Translator" and "Client" and I am thinking about including the fields "Year" and "Project number" too, in order to know more information about each Translation Unit. We don't have the Group Share License and we don't usually work with Packages, as it is easier to work with a server.
If I am right, when I create a new Translation Unit, this unit is saved with the corresponding data in the customized fields (to which client it is made, by which translator it has been created, etc). However, if I use this Unit Translation again (and I confirm it), the customized fields change and only the last version is saved (the last client for which it has been used, the last translator who used it...). From this moment on, these will be the data which will appear in the Unit Translation's customiez fields. I know that I could look in the automatic fields in order to know the creation data or the date, for example, but there I wouldn't be able to see the client or the translator.
I don't want to lose the first information (for which client it was used the first time, which was the translator who created it...), so I have tried to change the TM settings and to click the "allow multiple values" button, but a message appears: "If you select this option, all the data will disappear". As you can imagine, I didn't dare to tick it.
So...is there a way to make a Translation Unit, for example, to save all the clients for which is has been used? It would be great, as sometimes a word or an expression is used with one or two clients, and there is a different translation for another two clients...How do you usually use these customized fields? And finally...Taking into account that the automatic fields show the computer in which the translation unit has been created, and each translator has his/her own computer, I think that another possible solution could be to make this automatic field appear as it was a customized one...What do you think about it?
Thank you very much for reading this loooong message :-)
Leire.
